Jornada Alpaca is a growing farm in SW Kansas. Our little piece of the world is an open land, a land of big sky, ocean-like grasslands, contented cows and endless fields of waving grain, and now Alpaca!
We are located along the Cimarron branch of the old Santa Fe Trail, in Grant County, KS – “Highway to the Southwest”.
We were looking for livestock that would “fit” on our acreage (5 acres), be relatively easy to work with AND be enjoyable to be around. What a perfect fit with alpaca!
Phil and I made our decision to invest in our original herd (1 pregnant female with cria at side) following a year researching the alpaca industry, attending the 2004 Great Western Alpaca Show in Denver and visiting several alpaca farms. We began building a barn, readying the pastures, attended a wonderful Marty McGee Bennett hands-on training seminar and educating ourselves as much as possible about our new livestock purchase. We brought our “girls” home in June 2005 and have been enchanted, amazed and very excited to start a new “jornada” or journey.
Our goal is to breed and raise quality alpaca for the future of the national herd and quality fiber for the production of luxurious yarns and a wide range of clothing made from their amazing fiber. Last but not least… for the “shear” enjoyment of it.
Give us a call , stop by if you’re in the neighborhood, have a cup of coffee and we’ll chat awhile.
